Overview:
College Bridge is a flexible, self-paced English course designed to prepare seniors for college-level reading, writing, and academic independence. It is delivered through online modules and is ideal for students who prefer a more individualized learning path. The course is facilitated by Dr. Lauren Williams at Hearne High School.
Focus:
The course covers key college-readiness skills: analyzing texts, writing clear and well-supported arguments, and developing academic vocabulary. The content is practical and tailored for students transitioning into post-secondary education.
Course Structure:
Fully online, self-paced format
Focus on personal responsibility and time management
Modular assignments submitted digitally and reviewed by a campus instructor
Workload & Expectations:
Students are expected to progress consistently through online lessons
Short essays, discussion posts, and reading comprehension tasks
Must demonstrate mastery in reading and writing to receive credit
Rigor Level:
Moderate to High – College-prep but more structured than OnRamps
Best for students who want to build college readiness at their own pace
Eligibility:
12th graders who have passed both English I and English II STAAR EOC exams by the start of junior year
Students who may not choose OnRamps but still want a challenging and preparatory experience
Late Start Benefit:
Students who complete the course requirements early and earn credit become "Late Start Students," meaning they are excused from attending 1st period and start their school day with 2nd period.
TSI Exemption:
Students who complete the course requirements by the end of their senior year and earn High School credit are considered "college ready" and will be exempt from having to take the TSI for math or English placement at the college/university level.
