Happy Holidays!!!

Jan 6-10

I hope you all had an amazing holiday. I very much enjoyed my time with family and friends and was thrilled I was able to make it back for the first week to welcome the students. They came back with big smiles on their faces and even hugs! We had a good week getting adjusted back to school and going over rules and routines. We had lots of fun together and prepared for the new teacher to join. Ms Abell has ideas of where we are and where we are going with curriculum. I am certain it will be a nice transition for them. :)

I cant thank you enough for all the kind words and emails I have received. I am so happy to have got to teach all of your wonderful children and look forward to see them when I return. They are such a great group of kids!

Here is a quick glance at our week that they will be contiuning this week with Ms Abell.

Language

In language this week the kids worked on writing their next book for their younger friends in the school- kindergarten and grade 1s. They have each selected a way to organize their books and will working on publishing and illustarting these books over the next few weeks. Ask your child how they are organizing their book.

They are also learning about word choice. Selecting words that are more interesting makes a reader more engaged in a text. For example, instead of saying said we can say whispered, shouted, yelled etc. Pay attention to these fun words when reading with your child

Had to stop everything we were doing to check out the crazy snow coming down this week!!! Its a blizzard!!

Math

Oh what fun it is to learn about time. We have been practicing reading time on a clock but also exploring other elements of time through different center activities. Students at one group made clocks but even used materials provided to make sun dials! Check them out- they work!

Students learned about time through books and also looked how people and animals change over time. Discovering more about hibernating and migrating animals was very interesting!

What can you do in one minute? Students tried different activities around the room but then we began our minute to win it challenge ideas. They did such a great job and had so much fun playing! Once again thank you for your help organizing materials!

When setting up our minute to win it challenges students learned about procedural writing. We continued with this idea later in the week when we enjoyed a warm hot chocolate together. Before we wrote about how to make hot chocolate students watched a video of a dad making peanut butter and jelly. The students were laughing so hard as they recognized how important exact instructions must

I wish everyone a wonderful rest of the year and look forward to sharing exciting baby news when the baby arrives.

:) From the bottom of my heart thank you for a wonderful term!
