Students are required to have a novel or graphic novel that they are reading presently. Students will be writing a Reading Response after the journal mentioned below. They will be given an exemplar and an organizer to support their response. Students will need to read approximately 100 pages of their novel. Students are welcomed to seek out an audiobook to accompany their novel. I have shown students how to use OVERDRIVE (app);however, the titles are relatively limited.

Hello All,

Students of 8E have a creative writing task due Monday, October 7th. A PDF outlining the task is located in the 8E drive (ELA). In a nutshell, students are to create a piece of creative fiction revolving around a lost object. I thought of this topic after seeing various odd items discarded at the side of streets and highways. For creative writing students are encouraged to use the starters I provided, or come up with a creative manner of addressing the topic. We will be working on their writing task as well as exploring a variety of short stories over the coming days.

Writing Assignment #1

Students of 8E have a Summer Memoir due Wednesday September 18th. The assignment sheet and the organizer was shared with students in google docs. Please ask your child to show you the class folder and the documents and assignments found therein.

I request that all formal written tasks be in minimum 14 font, double spaced, edited and then printed off . Frankly, it is difficult to read dense writing tasks on a computer for too long. I much prefer a physical copy that I can mark, provide feedback and store in the students writing portfolio. The journal should be a minimum of 400 words (likely longer).
