This week has been a busy one with a few big changes! We have been very lucky to have an amazing student teacher, Ms. Kim! Ms. Kim has been teaching some of our days and we are learning a lot from her. The other big change is that we have moved to the junior floor, and the kids were the leaders in planning the layout of the room. I have to say, they did an amazing job and the class is well designed and we have already made it home! It is nice to see the class engaging with their peers in the hallways, and each other in our new space. Below are some pictures of the new space and one of the activities that happened this week. With all that happened this week, we ran out of time for the kids to post their ideas. Have a wonderful March Break!
This is how it all began!

Fridays are creative days. This is the day when the class gets to use their imagination and build, draw, collaborate and do the things they want to do. This is everyone's favourite day of the week. I LOVE seeing what these kids come up with and how they work independently, and together, to fulfill their passions! There are more pictures of projects in the works to come next posting!

It was so nice to get back together as a class. The kids were very chatty and genuinely happy to see each other: it was hard to get back to work as the excitement of being together was more important!
We got some new decodable chapter books that each student selected to start to read. This is a game changer!
On Wednesday December 14, the grade 6s travelled with the other grade 6 classes to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. It was a fantastic day and the kids represented Central, our class and families extremely well. It was an amazing day!
Our class has been working hard this year building mental math, addition, and subtraction skills. Today they are showing me what they know and so far I have been very impressed with their skills! Such a huge improvement from where we were at a few weeks ago. So proud of how hard they have worked on these skills! Next skill, multiplication and division after the break!
We had a great day of dressing up, reading books about zombies who love veggies, and making spiders that can crawl up a string.
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Over the next few weeks, our class will share some information about dyslexia with the school during our virtual announcements. We will also learn more about dyslexia and hear from many successful people from many different professions about their experiences in school and how they used their dyslexia as a super power! Click on the link above to access the Mark It Read - Dyslexia Canada website.
