I believe teaching learning skills are the most important things students learn in the elementary grades. These are the tools students carry with them into their future studies, jobs, careers, and relationships. In my classes, we focus on these skills daily. Our routine, tasks, assignments, projects, and interactions are always linked to a particular learning skill(s). At the beginning of the school year, a major focus is exploring each learning skill - what it looks like and how a student could demonstrate it. Throughout the year, we continue to discuss the importance of these skills and students have a chance to self-assess their progress and conference with me about their strengths and how they can improve.
