My name is Samantha Hammel and I am looking forward to being your child's grade one teacher. I am very excited to begin a new school year and I hope that your child will experience our classroom as one in which they feel safe to learn, ask questions and make mistakes, all while having fun!
I do appreciate that all children learn differently and I will do my best to ensure that we have a balance of learning that happens both inside and outside of the classroom. I value the opportunity to allow children to both see and hear about topics new to them but also believe in the importance of allowing them to put their hands in things to further their understanding by "doing" such as the use of math manipulatives, science experiments and opportunities for emergent inquiry.
Should we need to learn virtually for a period of time at any point this year, I will be using a platform called Google Classroom. This container will allow me and coverage teachers to house daily work in all subjects. It will also be the place where you will find our meeting link each day.
