Meet the Teacher

Bonjour et Bienvenue! My name is Cassie Colling and I am thrilled to be teaching Grade 2 French Immersion at Pilgrim WoodPublic School. This is my sixth year at Pilgrim Wood, and I am so grateful to be a part of such a great school community!

I look forward to the year ahead, and look forward to getting to know you! I am very excited to teach the 100% French Immersion Program again this year. I have a passion for the French language, and hope to pass this passion along to my students. My job is to enrich their lives in French culture, not only learning how to speak, read, and write in French, but to develop a love for the language.

As my father was a Quebec Francophone resident, I was placed in the French Immersion program starting in Grade 1 and I continued the program until Grade 12. Upon graduation, I received my French Bilingual Certificate. I then continued my French studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in French Language. I then attended Teachers College at Charles Sturt University and there received my FSL qualification.

During the summer of 2012, I had the opportunity to travel around Europe to continue speaking French and exploring the diversity between French-speaking cultures. In my spare time I love to play the piano, watch football, and play basketball. I am a very active person and love to live a happy and healthy lifestyle!

In my classroom, I believe difference is the norm, and together we celebrate these differences. Through inquiry and hands-on learning, students will develop the skills to ask questions, accent knowledge and challenge abilities. I am a constant believer that taking educational risks produces the best results (especially learning a new language!), and as a class, we will create a comfortable environment to do so. As a teacher, I strive to be a life-long learner along with my students.
