Home-School Connection

How can I help my child, even though I do not speak French?

Check the "weekly blog" on a regular basis to keep up to date with what we are learning in the classroom.

If your child is eager to speak French at home, let them be the teacher! Show encouragement and interest.

Take advantage of every situation to expand your child's exposure to French language (e.g., French television/radio programs, French music, cultural events, books, magazines, movies and games).

Read the "poem of the week" (found on the "poems" duotang) with your child nightly.

How can I help my child with Mathematics?

Praise your child’s efforts in mathematics. Recognize when your child uses mathematics in everyday life situations.

Be positive about learning mathematics. Let your child know that everyone can learn mathematics.

Make math fun. Spend time with your child playing games and doing activities that encourage better attitudes and stronger math skills.

Talk about real-world examples of math. Point out ways that people use math everyday (e.g., in the kitchen, in the grocery store, on the highway, on television).

Encourage your child to solve problems. Provide assistance if it is needed, but let your child figure out the problem by himself or herself. Ask your child to explain how he or she solved the problem.
