Learning Skills
The development of learning skills and work habits needed to succeed in school and life begins early in a childs' schooling. As students move through grades, they develop and consolidate their learning skills and work habits in preparation of post-secondary pathways.
Learning skills and work habits are an integral part of student's learning and are demonstrated by students across all subjects.
Learning skills and work habits contribute substantially to students success. When teachers and parents work with the students to help them develop their skills, student achievement improves in all subject areas.

Learning Skills Reports
Your child and I will keep you updated on your child's progression in his/her learning skills and work habits through a variety of Learning Skills Reports. Throughout the term, students will be asked to evaluate themselves on a particular skill in each of the learning skill categories. Students will also be asked to indicate something they are proud of and a goal for the following week. I will then evaluate the students in each of the learning skill categories. When these reports come home, please look at them, discuss them with your child, and return them to school with a signature as soon as possible. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to write them right on the "Learning Skills Report" page.
I feel strongly that it is important for student's to be able to assess and evaluate their strengths and improvements. It is only then that they will be able to generate appropriate goals and next steps for themselves to improve further.
*Keep in mind that the "Learning Skills Reports" are not the only tool used to assess your child's learning skills. They are designed to be used as a guide for student's to assess and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and set goals for improvement. I will use the "Learning Skills Reports" as well as observations (inside and outside of the classroom) to generate learning skills grades and comments student Report Cards.
