Step 1 - Developing the IEP: Consider your child's strengths and areas of need as a good place to start off. Include them in the discussions to have their voice present in their learning plan. Be transparent with the classroom teacher what the goals are for the year, and be sure to share any information you feel is relevant to maximizing their success.
Step 2 - Implementing the IEP: Support your child by working together with the classroom teacher, discussing goals at home, openly share additional insights, significant events, or updates with the SERT/teacher. The more opportunity to work together as a team the higher the success potential.
Step 3 - Reviewing + Updating the IEP: The IEP will be reviewed and sent home in Term 1 and 2, in addition to after any IPRC meetings. During the review if changes are required to any component you will be consulted in the updating process.
Parents/Guardians will work together with the SERT through consulation to develop, review, and update the IEP. After signing the Parent/Guardian Contact Form to provide feedback to the school communications make take place in a variety of methods including over phone calls, emails, letters, faxes, conferences, formal meetings, etc. Be sure to let your child's SERT know the method that works best for your family.
You may additionally find it helpful to build a portfolio of information for your child's teacher to share any information that may be beneficial to their support; including physical, intellectual, educational, emotional, cultural, social, and community services being accessed.
