Issue Analysis
We filled out an issue analysis template where we delved deeper into the issue, stakeholders, possible solutions, limitations, and longevity of our proposed solution.
SEEP Connections
Social:
shark populations going down would eventually cause other species to suffer due to changes in the food web, then reducing access to seafood
danger of extinction in a prominent species, such as sharks, could cause major uproar
fisherman often feel that they are unnecessarily harming sharks, as they don't mean to catch and injure them
Economical:
could lead to the downfall of the fishing industry because of reduced biodiversity
tourism industry may suffer since there are many shark related activities (snorkeling, etc)
may end up catching less of the target species since fishermen are instead catching by-catch, leading to financial issues
Environmental:
shark population going down could tamper with the balance of the food web
could lead to biodiversity loss
lack of population regulation (sharks ensure that other species don't overpopulate)
Political:
could be difficult to manage issue due to shared overseas territories
countries will have to work together to solve issue
