Kindergarten goals include:
1. Having enjoyable musical experiences through songs and games,
2.Group and solo singing, beginning with vocal exploration and finding singing voices,
3. Movement to music developing into keeping steady beat in duple and triple meters,
4. Experiencing major, minor and music in some of the modes,
5. Learning the four instrument families of the orchestra,
6. Participating in one musical performance.
First Grade goals include:
1. Group and solo in-tune singing, games to continue movement, steady beat, solo singing,
2. Singing songs and speaking chants in duple and triple meter,
3.Learning the rhythmic symbols of quarter notes, eight notes.
4. Responding to resting tones in several different tonalities,
5. Beginning to read and recognize known songs by singing them.
6. Singing songs in major, minor, and in several modes,
7. Participating in one musical performance.
Second Grade goals include:
1. Playing singing games that encourage in-tune singing and are selected with appropriate vocal range and difficulty level,
2. Reviewing: duple meter rhythm symbols, quarter note, eighth notes.
3. Singing, reading and writing solfege with a very limited tone set.
4. Playing ostinatos on pitched and un-pitched instruments,
5. Moving to music with more discrete skills, continuation of games, including folk dances from several different cultures,
6. Participating in one musical performance.
Third Grade goals include:
1. Beginning to learn some absolute letter names,
2. Practicing reading rhythm symbols in duple and triple meter,
3. Continuing singing games for solo singing and the enjoyment of making music together,
4. In-tune singing by singing rounds, canons, melodic ostinatos, and partner songs,
5. Playing ostinatos on pitched and un-pitched instruments,
6.Students begin to improvise melodic questions and answers using solfege,
7.Listening to, analyzing and describing music from various genres.
8. Participating in one musical performance.
Fourth Grade goals include:
1. Listening to, analyzing and describing music from several different genres,
2. Demonstrating more sophistication in blending vocal timbres, matching dynamic levels,
3. Responding appropriately to the cues of a conductor,
4. Singing melody and different harmony parts,
5. Sight reading known and some unknown songs in solfege and with absolute note names,
6. Playing ostinatos on pitched and un-pitched instruments,
7. Participating in one musical performance.
Fifth Grade goals include:
1. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music from several different genres,
2. Demonstrating more sophistication in blending vocal timbres, matching dynamic levels,
