Schools now use the nation-wide adopted Common Core Standards. At each grade level there are educational standards (or objectives) for each subject area. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).Â

We will be using the Math Expressions program where students will have access to online games, lessons and more.

We will be using Wonders for reading instruction and Lucy Calkin's Units of Study for writing instruction. We will be reading a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts that align with our science and social studies curriculum.

We will be using the district adopted curriculum, Twig Science Curriculum, that is based on the NGSS standards.
We will focus on the following units of study:

4 - Earthquake Engineering (Physical Science)
5 - Super Survivors (Life Science)
We will be using StudiesWeekly for our Social Studies Curriculum.
In 4th grade, students learn about the history, geography, immigration patterns, and growth of California. Students will begin the year learning about the geography, people, and life in early California. Students will learn about California statehood, government, and immigration. Finally, we will end the year with our famous Gold Rush Day.
