B- 82 - 80 C- 72 – 70 D- 62 - 50
Course Objectives:
Students will develop strong mathematical foundations, complex problem solving skills, and a lifelong love of mathematics.
To do this, we will focus on learning that is rooted in foundational skills both in practice and procedure) and lessons that are connected to the world which allow students to go deep in their mathematical understanding.
Our mathematics classroom focuses on collaboration, diverse thought and problem solving techniques, and ensuring that students see mathematics as an essential part of their everyday lives and the world around them.
Course Materials:
Big Ideas Math - Textbook
Desmos - Interactive, Online Tools and Assignments
Prisms - Virtual Reality, Problem Solving Activities (Pending Board Approval)
Homework Policy:
Expect to have 10 -25 minutes of homework each day.
Homework assignments will be announced in class and on Google Classroom.
Homework is graded on completeness and effort. To receive full credit for an assignment all work must be shown, a list of answers is not acceptable.
Late work will be accepted until the end of the unit. No credit will be given after the chapter test.
Assessment Policy:
Quizzes will be taken as a mid unit as formative assessment and as preparation for tests. Quizzes are worth 10 points and cannot be retaken.
Tests will be taken at the end of each unit as a summative assessment of mastery of procedures and application. Chapter tests are worth 100 points. If a student scores below a 75% on a test, then that student will be given the opportunity to retake the test up to a 75%. A student will only be given this opportunity after correcting the initial test.
Performance Tasks will taken at the end of each unit to assess students’ problem solving and mathematical understanding on a deeper level. Performance Tasks are done during class, in small groups and may not be taken home for completion. Performance Tasks are worth 8-12 points and cannot be retaken.
Absence Policy and Procedures:
You are responsible for learning all missed material and completing all assignments and assessments that occurred while absent.
What to do when absent:
Look at the Google Classroom and weekly calendar to see what you missed.
Watch online tutorials if you missed a new lesson.
Complete missed homework and classwork assignments.
Upon your return, collect any handouts that were given and turn-in work that was due while absent.
Schedule a time with your teacher for any tests or quizzes you missed.
