In the Spring of 2025, 125 students took IWCC classes.
In the Spring of 2025, 964 credits were attemped by our students.
In the Spring of 2025, the students enrolled in college credit classes had earned a cumulative total of 7,058.50 credits.
The Class of 2025 earned an average of 20 credits before graduation. Two students earned 48 FREE IWCC credits each!
Harlan Community High School is not new to providing college credit opportunities to our students.
In the Spring of 2025, the average student earned 7.71 credits for the semester.
Harlan Community High School is providing hands-on, real-world experiences for our students in the classroom and with our business partners.
We are excited to highlight their many successes, as their certifications and internships provide them with soft skills and resume-building assets to make them employable members of our community.

Community partners collaborate with HCHS to bring real-world projects to the MS and HS!
Authentic Learning Seminar classes are offered and expanding:
Students are working independently or in small groups to learn and work with area businesses.
Examples:
Students are working with an area business on their social media posts, bringing a youthful eye to their purchasing, and giving input on how to bring money in from their age-group.
Students are working with the school to create an electronic record board and website for the high school.
The Advanced Marketing class has taken over the Harlan Community School District social media pages; student-led is best!
Work-Based Learning (WBL) Program: (Formerly known as MOC - Multiple Occupations Credit) allows students to work alongside a teacher to earn high school credit in a class about career knowledge, employability skills, and boosting self-confidence AND a paid job in the community!
iJAG: Iowa's Job's for America's Graduates is a daily class and program intended to support students in finding their future career and passion. They have a coach who supports them, even a year after high school! This program has expanded at HCSD to be led by 3 instructors at the MS and HS.
Avenue Scholars: This program provides students with a career coach who helps them to discover their passion AND offers a full scholarship (with additional coaching and guidance) to IWCC. Avenue Scholar's goal is to guide students into financially sustaining careers with opportunities for upward mobility while enhancing the regional workforce.
