Definition: A college-bound student is interested in a career path that requires an Associates or Bachelor's degree at a 2 or 4 year college/university.
Make a goal to complete 24 credit hours before graduation. This equates to one year of college.
Take advantage of our certification and career academy programs alongside other college courses.
Have college certificate or experience in an area related to their major are more likely to earn paid internship/apprenticeship positions while in college.
Who complete 24+ credit hours are more likely to pursue a second major or a Master's degree while in college (in the same amount of time). Others graduate sooner and begin their career earlier, at reduced cost!
All college courses are dual-enrollment for graduation credit. This means that students receive high school AND college credit at NO COST to the student! We have classes offered in person, online, at at the Shelby County IWCC Center.
Students take classes for dual credit with a certified HCHS teacher.
Teachers must have a BA+18 hours in the area they are teaching to be certified to teach these courses. Many HCHS teachers have their Master's Degree in these fields.
Students will work with the IWCC Career Counselor or HCHS counselor to choose classes that align with their interested career pathway.
Students are encouraged to take classes that fulfill general education requirements as well as explore the career pathway (future major).
Students take classes for dual credit online. Many of these classes also feed into a certification program.
Students are scheduled a college study hall within their day to give time to work on classes. Many students also have open campus privileges and enjoy working on classes from home.

Programs either end in a IWCC certification or lead directly into a program for an Associate's degree. A large portion of the coursework is completed at HCHS.
Students who complete these programs have the opportunity to enter the workforce either directly from high school OR after completing the Associate degree requirements. For many programs, this can be under a year after high school graduation.
