Wolves are threatened by conflict with humans, and the loss of both habitat and protections under state and federal endangered species laws. The gray wolf was de-listed throughout its historic range, with the exception of the Mexican gray wolf in the Southwestern states. There is no possibility of knowing exactly how many wolves there are in the world. However, scientists have estimated that around 200,000 to 250,000 wolves are inhabiting the world, with the majority of the species residing in the United States and about 50,000 gray wolves living in Canada.
Wolves are wild animals and they have a big distribution that exists in many types of habitats. They are very different animals. For this reason, they have a habitat that is very spread out around the world. It isn’t true that they only live in very thick forests and come out at night. Wolves have been identified in many areas that you may not even imagine them being able to survive.
In the wild, wolves are seen to live in forested areas and grasslands but also exist in, tundra, boreal forests, and deserts. Their great ability to adapt to other habitats is surprising to many because many wild dogs usually favor one type of habitat. Their versatility is amazing and it has helped them to survive other than their status as an endangered animal.
