Minecraft is a blocky sandbox game with two main modes: survival, and creative. You can play in both modes on multiplayer or singleplayer, though it is hard to find a Minecraft creative server. In Minecraft, you can do and build whatever you want. Some people build giant complex redstone computers, or make silly contraptions that launch or kill players! Others make beautiful megabases and tiny dirt huts, while others just make a functional base and attempt to survive the harsh landscape.
Do whatever you want
Good music
Strange and silly
Many modifications (mods) and resource packs (change how things look)
Anyone can enjoy it
Redstone (Minecraft's electricity) can make complex machines that are actually useful in real life
Good variety of blocks, but not so many that people don't need to improvise to make something
Each world's terrain is different, though you can still use a seed to get the same terrain.
Blocky, so you can't make perfect circles
In singleplayer, the world can feel quite lonely and sad
Your game can crash really easily if you make a bit too many lag machines
Can't say much bad about it
This has nothing to do with the game itself, but there are a lot of annoying players on multiplayer servers that grief and steal things
Tons of fun for creative people who like legos, and good for making friends on multiplayer servers. Minecraft can be enjoyed by people of all ages (at least on singleplayer) because there is nothing dirty, other than dirt huts (Forgive the pun).
Minecraft randomly generates terrain, so someone's world might look like this, but unless you use a seed (world terrain code, basically) or get lucky, you will likely never spawn in a world like this.
