As with any activity, there are some costs involved although ours are not that expensive as we have seen in other places. We are thankful to the Maryland Science Olympiad organization for covering these costs in our start up first year (21-22).
Step One
All schools need to purchase the Science Olympiad Division A Manual. You can get the physical copy or the digital copy of the Competitive Tournament Manual. In the manual you will find the full description of all of the events we are running for the 2023-2024 year. Rules are not provided from the competition organizer or another other source. The short description of the events provided here on this site are not sufficient to be considered the rules of the event but rather are here for a descriptive purpose only. Any individual event modifications/clarifications will be posted. There is a NEW 2024 Division A manual for $32, DO NOT purchase that manual. We are primarily using the rules from the $15/20 version of the manual. The two events from the other are provided on the Schedule of Events Page.
Your school only needs to purchase the manual once to have access to all of the rules. Rules are not to be provided to schools in any other way than the official manual.
In-Person Tournament (April 20, 2024)
For those schools who are participating in the in-person tournament in April, the participation fee of $100 for the first team from a school. This will cover the costs of materials for the in-person events and the awards for the events/teams. If a school wants to have multiple teams (up to three total) each additional team will be $75.
Teams will register on the main site MSO (Maryland Science Olympiad) uses for registering all groups. Currently it says Registration for Div B and C, but the site will also accept registration for DivA as well. Putting in the basic information asked (Coaches name, address of the school, division A...) will be followed by a screen to add a registration discount when you click on the Pay Registration Fees button. Please make sure you select the DIV-A discount, as the base fee for Division B and C is more than what we have for Division A.
(Video Instructions are here if you are registering two Divisions)
After you register, you will be contacted within a week about which "league" you would like join for the competition. We will have both a beginner and seasoned group for the competition. While this is just our 3rd season, some teams have been with us for two years in a row and have a good handle on how things flow at a competition. Depending on registrations and balance purposes we could end up spliting a league randomly if it is much larger than the other league - but we won't make that decision until March 1, 2024 (The cut off date for registration and payment)
