FQMS GT Research

6th Grade G/T Research

The G/T Research class is an elective course offered to sixth grade students who participate in both G/T English and G/T Mathematics. Participating students receive instruction in advanced-level research skills that can be applied in their G/T Content classes. The research class provides a curricular framework for students to become producers of new knowledge as they apply research skills modeled in the curriculum to an original investigation in a self-selected area of study. Students will learn how to conduct both primary and secondary research in an effort to address a particular topic and research question.

The major content of this course includes:

  • identifying the purposes for conducting research

  • distinguishing between primary and secondary research

  • building a knowledge of the primary and secondary research processes

  • exploring and applying the various types of primary research designs

  • analyzing and presenting research findings.

Independent G/T Research Investigations

Independent G/T Research Investigations are opportunities for students to delve deeper into topics and issues of interest. These topics may include a continuation of the 6th Grade G/T Research project or a new topic of interest identified by any student in the school. Please be sure to stop by the G/T Resource Room if you have a topic that you are considering exploring.
