About Us

Originally known as the Student Wellness Committee, Hawks for Wellness was established in September of 2019. Our mission was to to create a safe, relaxing student wellness center in the 2100s pod to combat student anxiety and stress through various mindfulness practices and educate staff on current research and best practices concerning student wellness. Our committee collaborated each month, focusing on strategies, aesthics, communication, and logistics. Besides our dedicated group of students and staff, clubs and classes contributed to our space. Graphic Design students made our logos, Horitculture grew plants for the space, and IB Art students spent weeks creating our beautiful, peaceful wall mural. We were fortunate to receive funding from the Hanover Education Foundation and our principal, Mrs. Reece. In addition, furniture was donated by Home-makers furniture. Finally, in March 2019 Our Hawk Haven was opened to the student body.

Unfortunately, due to our COVID school closing, our wellness pod was only open for a few days. But we were still able to celebrate our ribbon cutting and invite Hanover's superintendant, Dr. Gill to come see what our energized group was able to create. During the Learn from Home phase, our group virtually met to think about how we need to adapt to the new digital learning environment. We thought it would be beneficial for students, teachers and parents to access strategies and resources online.
