The group was initially founded under the name Human Genetic Research Group (HRG) by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Hue at International University, VNU-HCMC in 2010. Four years later, University of Science, VNU-HCMC became its host institute and the group was renamed into Human Genetics (HG). HG group recruited young researchers, graduate students, and also undergraduate students for researching in the field of molecular biotechnology and disease diagnosis. 

Up to now, HG lab has been conducting various projects with a remarkable number of publications. The target of HG group’s research varied from chromosome containing disease gene (e.g Typhoid fever susceptibility genes on chromosome 17) to single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associating with the disease (e.g the association between candidate SNPs and breast cancer in Vietnamese). Recently, the group focus has been on breast cancer early diagnosis by quantifying the expression profile of miRNA, using the Stem-loop quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) technique. 

In addition, HG lab has collaborated with various hospitals and institutes in not only Vietnam but also foreign countries, such as Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU), Tu Du Hospital – HCMC, and Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Queensland University of Science – Australia in several projects.
