STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
1. As per HCISD policy, TURN CELL PHONE OFF & KEEP IN BACKPACK **HB 1481 bans personal electronic devices during the instructional day.**
2. School issued iPad must be connected to teacher Classroom App. Failure to be connected could result in a zero on tests and quizzes.
3. ALL district and campus policies will be enforced.
4. Be prompt and prepared. Make sure to have your supplies with you at the beginning of class.
5. Be polite and respectful when participating in discussions, lessons, activities, etc.
6. Be productive. Use your time wisely!
7. Be positive. You can be successful in this course, and I am here to help you. Students are also expected to communicate to the teacher any failure to understand a lecture or assignment. Don’t say, “I can’t do this,” instead say, “I can’t do this, YET.” Please seek help when needed by asking me (during class, during tutorials, or request an appointment), your classmates, or use appropriate available resources in your Canvas course and other internet resources.
8. Prepare your technology so the classroom is an excellent learning environment for everyone. Personal phones should be put away in the wall pockets. Classroom devices should be used during appropriate power up times and for appropriate educational purposes.
9. Unless specified, you must ALWAYS show work. NO WORK=NO CREDIT!!!! Showing your work and justifying your answers will be crucial to getting full credit on class assignments and assessments.
10. Absences and Makeup work: Students are responsible for making up work due to an absence (extra -curricular or personal).
Any assignment due the day of the absence will be expected to be turned in the day the student returns to class.
Students will have the same number of class days they were absent to make up a quiz or assignment. After the allotted time given, the student will not be able to make up the assignment or quiz.
Tests are scheduled at least one week in advance and require the student to email the teacher regarding the absence. Test will be taken the next class day.
11. LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED, with a Penalty for Geometry. LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED for Pre-Calculus and College Prep Math. Pay careful attention to due dates which are listed on the calendar in Canvas. Communicate any problems regarding assignment dates as early as possible, so that alternative arrangements (if warranted) can be made.
Students are encouraged NOT to wait until the last minute to begin work on assignments. Repetition is a key to learning in mathematics, and that works best when the repetition occurs over several days (instead of one marathon learning session). If you must submit an assignment late, 10 points will be deducted each day it is late. You will only have up to 3 full days (not class days) to submit late assignments. Additionally, if a student waits until the last minute and then encounters technical issues, the assignment will be considered late, and the late penalty will apply.
12. Be honest. Try your best, ask for help when you need it, and only submit work that you have done. While studying with other students is appropriate and encouraged, this is not meant to replace individual effort. Students who attempt to take credit for someone else’s work commit a serious offense, and those offenses will be dealt with according to the code of conduct. During tests and quizzes all extraneous objects are to be removed from your workspace.
For this course, academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:
A) Working with anyone else on quizzes and tests
B) Copying someone else’s work/answers or allowing another student to copy your work, on any
assignment (homework, quizzes, examinations)
C) Allowing someone else to do any of your work in the course for you
13. Students are also expected to communicate to the teacher any failure to understand a lecture or assignment. Success in the class may be gained by/from active participatory learning, studying, doing assigned work, asking questions, and seeking help when difficulties arise.
Classroom Procedures
Students will walk in, grab calculators and materials for the day, and put phones away
Calculators are numbered and assigned to students based on their seat number (please make sure you check that your calculator is in working condition and notify Mrs. Garza immediately if it is not)
Students will be seated and begin working on their Do Now (Bell Ringer)
We will review the Bell Ringer before we continue with class
We will work on notes and/or activities in small groups or in whole group
When taking notes, students should actively participate by asking and answering questions
When working in small groups, roles will be given to ensure each student participates
When working in whole group, there will be a mixture of volunteering and cold calls to ensure each student is actively participating
Students will work on an exit ticket and replace the class materials
