Course Description:

The mission of this organization is to promote appropriate and good spirit, to develop good sportsmanship, self-confidence, self-discipline, to promote leadership, to encourage high morals and standards among its members, to develop the ability to work as part of a team in achieving common goals, and to represent the school and community in an exemplary manner, serving as a role model for appropriate behavior and citizenship.

Students will engage in the following genres through the duration of this course:

-Ballet

         -Jazz 

         -Modern

-Contemporary

         -Pom

         -Kick

         -Hip Hop

         -Choreography/Improvisation

Materials Needed:

1.  Dance Attire/Practice Clothes

2.  Sneakers

3.  Spiral Notebook/Composition Book

4.  Pen/Pencil

5.  Dance Officers- Officer Binder

Expectations:

-Arrive to class/practice on time, prepared, and properly dressed in correct practice attire

-Upon arrival, cell phones should be silenced and placed in designated cubbies for the entire duration of class

-Next, students should place all personal items in lockers

-Students should then bring their Journals/Composition Notebooks, pens/pencils, and water bottles into the studio and have a seat at the board in Squad Lines on the designated markers BY THE START OF PRACTICE (All Stars should be seated in Squad Lines at the board with their Notebooks by 7:15AM)

-Students will then complete a 5 minute daily Do-Now Journal Entry (At this time, Dance Officers should also check their lines)

-At the end of 5 minutes, Dance Officers will then announce for journals to be turned into designated cubbies, and Stars should report to Squad Lines facing the mirrors

-Dance Officers will then lead the Team in a Warm Up and Stretch to continue with the day’s lesson

-All Stars should be respectful to the Directors and fellow Stars

-All Stars are expected to fully participate in instruction, activities, and all events

-All Stars are expected to abide by all rules and regulations of the Harlingen South Southern Stars Constitution

Classroom Rules:

1.  Always show respect for one another

2.  Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or bun throughout the entire duration of the class (No scrunchies or hair accessories of any kind)

3.  Jewelry/Watches must be removed before class has begun

4.  No chewing gum

5.  Food/Drinks/Trash should not be left out in either the studio or locker room

6.  Personal items should always be kept in designated lockers when not in use

Grading Policy: 

-Major Grades = 25% of grade

-Minor Grades = 75% of grade

-Semester Exam = 15% of overall grade

-Minimum of 2 test grades per quarter
