SMART Goals for Each Service Component
Individual Planning: The counselors met with students individually to support them academically, socially, and emotionally. Counselors met their goal of meeting with 100% of their students individually. Counselors met with students after every 9th weeks to review their report cards. Counselors advised students about their transition throughout high school and post secondary education.
Responsive Services: Counselors responded to student crises that occurred during the school year. Counselors also contacted parents of students who were failing classes and in danger of not being promoted to the next grade level.
System Support: Counselors participated in social emotional learning lessons and academic advising lessons for students in classrooms. Counselors partnered with the different departments by attending the professional learning communities (PLC) meetings for each department. Counselors also worked together with counselors from across the district to address crisis as part of the District Crisis Support Team.
Guidance Curriculum: Counselors implemented lessons to support students learn about their credits, grades, high school transition, post-secondary goals, career pathways, emotional intelligence (self-regulation, self-awareness, motivation, empathy, and social skills). The program Character Strong was also used to support the social emotional learning of students through teacher implementation.
Student Outcome & Data Visualization
Counselors met with students after each of the 9 week marking period to review their grades. At the end of the school year there was a reduced number of students who needed to attend summer school in order to recover course credit versus the previous school year.
Student Outcome & Data Visualization
At least 38% of the Emergent Bilingual (EB) Students must increase one proficiency level in the composite score in order to meet the target in Domain 3: Closing the gaps.
The campus goal for the school year 2022-2023 was that 50% of EBS will increase one proficiency level. The results showed that 51% of all students met the increase in proficiency level.
The teacher support in the classroom along with the counseling initiatives outside the classroom helped reach this goal. The counseling department support included motivating the students through events such as the EB "Power of a Knockout" event for boys, EB Quincenera event for girls, Wellness Wednesday Sessions, EB Posada event for families, classroom presentations, and end of the year fieldtrip.
Parent Collaboration
The counselors participated in the campus Family Empowerment Night that we had for our Freshman families. The team of counselors was located at the school campus cafeteria to distribute schedules, be available for parents who had questions, and provide a College and Career Readiness Guide for parents. The counselors showcased a presentation slide which included the different services and resources we provide on campus for our students. In addition, we highlighted some of the events had for our students and future events for students.
