First established in 1989, the NPCC Unit Overall Proficiency Award traces its roots to 1963, where it was formerly known as the Best Unit Award. Further refinements were made in 2000 and 2006 for greater alignment with the assessment criteria across all other Youth Uniformed Groups (see Image 2).
Our unit has the honour of being the Best Unit in 1988 (last year of Best Unit Award), and is currently also the unit with most Distinctions in Singapore (34 Distinctions since 1989). We are also honoured to be the unit with the longest consecutive streak of 28 UOPA Distinctions since 1996.

Going far together
Beyond accolades and achievements, what truly distinguishes HCI NPCC is its enduring culture of mentorship and friendship. Each generation of cadets builds upon the foundation laid by their predecessors, creating an unbroken chain of excellence that spans more than five decades. Our success is not merely measured by trophies and awards, but by the strength of bonds forged through shared challenges, late-night training sessions, and unwavering mutual support. The unit's culture of mentorship ensures that knowledge, skills, and values are passed down from senior to junior cadets, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem of leadership development. This tradition of guidance and support extends beyond graduation, with alumni regularly returning to share their experiences and contribute to the unit's growth.
It is this spirit of camaraderie—where every cadet looks out for one another, where seniors guide juniors with patience and dedication, and where friendships forged in training last a lifetime—that forms the bedrock of our unit's sustained excellence. As we continue to write new chapters in our unit's history, we remain committed to nurturing not just accomplished cadets, but individuals who embody the values of respect, integrity, and service.
