1. Each subject has a unique syllabus code (e.g. 0511) and its components (types of paper).
2. Each subject may consist of one or more option codes (e.g. AY, FY...), which mainly differentiate by core or extended
paper. It is preferable to choose extended paper.
3. The differences between Core and Extended curriculums are explained as follows:
I. Core curriculum is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject.
It is target at students expected to achieve grades C to G.
II. Extended curriculum comprises the Core curriculum and the Supplement, are design for the more academically
able and leads naturally into higher education or professional training.
It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E.
4. Candidates are NOT allowing to select subject’s component that required coursework.
5. For English as a Second Language (Speaking endorsement or Count-in Speaking) (0510 & 0511),
Chinese (Mandarin) - Foreign Language (0547) and Malay - Foreign Language (0546), candidate need to attend a
speaking test.
6. There will be NO speaking test for English - First Language (0500), Chinese - First Language (0509),
and Malay - First Language (0696).
7. Differences between English as a Second Language (Speaking endorsement) (0510) and English as a Second
Language (Count-in Speaking)(0511).
For English as a Second Language (Speaking endorsement) (0510), speaking test result will report separately on
the Statement of Results, while for English as a Second Language (Count-in Speaking) (0511), speaking test result
will not report separately on the Statement of Results.

*** Taking different syllabus of the same subject is NOT allowed (E.g. First Language and Second Language)
8. Differences between Combined Science (0653) and Co-ordinated Science (0654).
The Combined Science (0653) course has less content while the Co-ordinated Science (0654) course offers a
more comprehensive overview of the three sciences and is generally recommended for all students, especially
individuals who wish to study science further. Although Co-ordinated Science (0654) is treated as a single
Science subject, students will receive up to 2 certifications (2 IGCSE certificates with the same score).
For Combined Science (0653) students can only receive 1 certificate and must study the same program with
Coordinated Science but with less contents.
*** Taking Combined Science and Coordinated Science in the same exam series is NOT allowed.
9. Candidates who wish register for subject that is NOT under the school curriculum. Kindly read the syllabus carefully.
10. Compulsory subjects for all candidates are:
English language and Chinese language; Malay Language (for students who have studied BM at school).
11. It is highly recommended all students to register for ALL subjects that you have studied at school.
