Petra Green, MSN RN NE BC, has worked with CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, TN since around 1990. She is someone I personally got to watch speak at the 2025 Service Award Ceremony for CHI Memorial’s committed and long-term workers. She has been working under the same organization for over 30 years now, and has worked her way up as a student and healthcare provider for multiple decades.
Beyond presenting workplace events, and recognition, she has also obtained the 2022 THA Patient Safety Leadership Award as the Market Director of Nursing for Memorial, and many other achievements for her hard work over years.
Originally from Germany, Petra moved to America at 14 years old since her grandfather retired from the military back to his home town. With the obvious cultural shift, and new environment Petra considered this as a: “hardship in life and obvious change.” She said with the move, it didn’t affect her direction in her career or any pre-set blueprint she had in mind for her future.
Many healthcare professionals say they’ve had a long standing passion for caring for others, or a heart since the beginning for nursing people back to health; However, reflecting on her journey into healthcare Petra said: “My very first formal schooling in healthcare was actually a nursing assistant so it didn’t really aspire to anything.”Petra’s drive, and enjoyment for caring for others heavily didn’t quite occur to its current extent until she was older. in school, and caring for the elderly
Leading up to becoming the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care she was a licensed practical nurse before becoming an associate prepared registered nurse. After this she went back to school and got her bachelors in religion and healthcare, before going back once again and obtaining her bachelor’s in nursing, then master's degree Science in Nursing.
Throughout those years, and long hard hours of schooling and work Petra said her drive to keep progressing would have to be her children, and her support system would have to be her husband.
