Volkswagen eLabs are state-of-the-art digital fabrication labs placed in Hamilton County public schools, led by Public Education Forward with a learning model developed at STEM School Chattanooga. Rooted in constructionism — the idea that students learn best by actively building their own understanding — the labs give students hands-on access to technologies like 3D printing, robotics, and renewable energy while developing essential skills like problem solving, collaboration, and communication. The model follows an "Explore, Engage, Empower" cycle: students tackle an authentic real-world problem, collaborate with peers and industry experts to develop solutions, then use rapid prototyping and the engineering design process to fabricate actual products. Beyond boosting engagement and making learning tangible, the labs double as workforce development, preparing students for careers in fields like engineering, data science, and entrepreneurship.
