Second graders used the engineering design process to answer the question- "As environmental engineers, how can we prevent dangerous winds and water from impacting the land and things that live there?".
Students created outdoor models that included a landform (hills or mountains) and buildings made with legos.
Next, as a team, students imagined and planned how to keep their outdoor models from flooding when a dangerous rainstorm threatened to wash away their landforms and buildings.
Students tested their plans and then made improvements to their models to reduce erosion, landslides, and flooding in the future.
Students created videos to share their final tests and discuss how they used the engineering design process to answer the question.
