Writing for April 27-May 1

Choose one of the following prompts to respond to this week.

Writing is due May 1. Take a picture and send it to me through Dojo or email miller_robin@hcde.org if you are not doing it in Google Classroom.

o Opinion Writing: There were many ideas about how to put the country back together after the War. Some wanted to punish the South. Some wanted to be more forgiving. Some wanted to restrict the rights of newly freed slaves. Others wanted to give them the same rights as other citizens. Which opinion you agree with most?

o Informative/Explanatory Writing: Throughout history, people have gone to war, then after the war is over, sometimes the victor helps the loser regain footing. Explain why the victor would do this.

o Narrative Writing: Imagine you were living in the South after the Civil War. If the Radical Republicans’ plan was to go through, the South would be forced to pay the North for the War. How would this part of the plan affect you and your family? Write a journal entry explaining an imaginary discussion you overhear your parents having about this Reconstruction plan.

o Journal Writing: Write a journal entry about what your life has been like this week. How are you feeling? What have you done? What did you enjoy/do for fun? What do you miss?
