Admiral Lord Boyce and our beacon
The Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Admiral The Lord Boyce, was a great supporter of many charities and community events.
One example was a handwritten letter dated 24 Dec 2006 from him to both HBBS and the Winkle Club, via a covering letter to Mrs Kathy Wood, then the HBBS secretary.
The Letter Is a belated thank you from the Lord Warden. On Headed note paper, The Constable's Tower, Dove Castle, Dover Kent, as a heartfelt thank you for our letter to him of 14th November 2006 conveying news of the beacon being lit at Hastings on the 21st October together with the `Winkle Up` Flag hoist being made.
He says:
Fleur and I were very touched that you should have marked our marriage in this way on Trafalgar day as you commemorated the battle, and we felt very honoured.
We our selves were blessed with a sunny afternoon the wedding and we had a very happy time. We note that you had more challenging weather- and you have our commiserations?
May we both wish the HBBS and the Winkle Club all the best for 2007 and we hope we get the chance to meet with up with you again during the coming years.
Yours Sincerely
Michael Boyce
