You will likely be prompted to set a computer account and password for your laptop. Be sure to make note of the username and password as Hathaway Brown School will not be able to help you recover this information.
Do not use a school email for these credentials.
We recommend that you create a new personal Apple ID with a personal email address or use a previously-created personal Apple ID. We do NOT recommend that you use a school-managed Apple ID that you may have used on your iPad in the Middle School. The school-managed ID does not provide you access to the App Store, Apple Music, iTunes, etc.

A responsible laptop user keeps software up to date in order to keep the machine bug free and stable. There are 4 major update categories: 1) Operating System, 2) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), 3) Adobe (Acrobat, Photoshop), and 4) Other apps (App Store programs, non-app store programs).
