In the event of any drill or emergency...
Please take drills seriously. I want you to be prepared to deal any situation that may arise, and I want you to be safe.
Please be kind to each other. We never know what kind of emergencies are going on in others’ lives.
Use your common sense and be aware of your surroundings.
🔥 From our room, go out the exterior door on the left and then walk toward the parking lot (D Lot) on the left.
🔥 Stay together as a group and stay calm. I will have my roster to ensure everyone is accounted for.
🔥 Remain as a group outside until I instruct you to return to class.
🔥 Please return quickly to the room when instructed and wait quietly as I call role.
🔥 If you are out of the room but in B Building, please exit the building quickly and join us outside.
🔥 If you are out of the room and in a different building, please exit the building quickly and inform an administrator once you get outside.
🌪️ Go into the hall and kneel against the wall to the right of the door. (Try to stay away from the exterior door.)
🌪️ Put your hands over your head to protect yourself from falling debris.
🌪️ Please remain silent and huddle close to your neighbors. We have a lot of students and a limited amount of hall space.
🌪️ I know this drill feels silly. Please be patient and don’t complain. Remember that we care about you.
🌪️ If you are out of the room during a tornado drill, please follow the same procedures, but find a safe space in the hall where you are rather than trying to return to your class.
🔒Two types:
“Minimum” Lockdown
“Maximum” Lockdown
🔒Administration (or other authorized personnel) will come over the intercom and announce that we are going into a lockdown, and an alarm will sound.
🔒During a lockdown of any kind, no one will be permitted to leave the classroom for any reason. (It’s an emergency, after all).
Minimum Lockdown
🔒In a “Minimum” lockdown, we will continue with class as normal, but with a few exceptions:
🔒I will remove the magnet from the door lock strike plate, and the door will be locked and closed
🔒Those who are nearest the windows, please lower and close the blinds
Maximum Lockdown
🔒This lockdown is definitely more serious, so we need to make sure we treat it as such.
🔒For this lockdown, we will take the following protocols:
🔒Whoever is closest to the windows, please lower and close the blinds.
🔒Everyone will move against the wall underneath the window.
🔒Please do not sit in the direct path of the door to the hall. Sit close together to make room for everyone.
🔒You MUST be silent! If there were an active shooter on campus, we would NOT want to advertise our whereabouts.
If You are Out of the Room Durng a Lockdown....
🔒If you are out of the room during a lockdown, DO NOT try to come back to the classroom. Join a classroom close to you.
🔒Move quickly so you don’t get locked out.
🔒Teachers will sweep each building to guide you to their rooms.
🔒Be aware of your surroundings. Use common sense.
🔒If you are outside of a building, use your best judgment in the situation…
🔒If you can make it safely into a building, do so as quickly as possible, and enter the first open classroom.
🔒If you feel that your safest bet is to run, then run as if you life depends on it. Get as far away as you can.
🔒Word to the wise: DO NOT try to get into your car; you’ll get to safety faster on foot.
💣In the event of a bomb threat or other event that would require a necessary evacuation, we will follow the following plan:
💣Administration will announce evacuation.
💣We will exit the building and go toward D Lot.
💣From there, we will walk as a group to the track. Our designated area is the upper right quadrant of the track, near the field house.
💣I will have my roster with me to make sure that everyone is accounted for
💣From the track, we will load buses and will be taken to a safe, undisclosed location in the area.
