Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities in Our Community:
Austin Shakespeare has a great volunteer opportunity for Lehman High School National Honor Society students. They are presenting two productions at The Curtain Theatre, a mini-Globe Theatre on the shores of Lake Austin. This is one of only twelve in the country. The company uses volunteers to serve as ushers, concessionaires, direct parking, sign people up on their email list and assist in selling t-shirts. All volunteers get to see the play.
Our schedule is:
Free Shakespeare
Romeo and Juliet: May 23 – June 9
Thursdays – Sundays at 8 pm
Young Shakespeare (our teen company)
Richard III: June 20 - 30
Thursdays – Sundays at 8 pm
We’d love to see theater or any interested students for this unique experience of Shakespeare in its “natural” setting. Let me know how we can help.
Sincerely,
Alex B. Alford, Managing Director

Fuentes Elementary is hosting a lot of community events this school year, and I was wondering if Lehman's National Honor Society would be willing to help in exchange for community service hours. The dates and times for the community events are:
Sept 12th- Open House/ STEAM Night (5pm-7pm)
Oct 26th- Spooky Science (5:30pm-7:00pm)
Jan 18th- Let the Stars Shine (5:30pm-7:00pm)
Feb 29th- International Dance and Music Festival (5:30pm-7:00pm)
May 9th- Fine Arts Showcase (5:30pm-7:30pm)
I understand Open House will probably have conflicts across the district, but if you or your students are willing, the help at these events would be most appreciated. I would only need 5 or 6 students per event to help run booths. If you would like to know more about these events, please do not hesitate to reach out. If you are not interested, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this message.
Thank you,
Bethany Kornacki

First, a little about “the Patch”. Every year (except covid years) we work with Pumpkins International in providing a place where families can visit, picking out their own pumpkin, taking pictures, and enjoying a local event. We have visitors who bring their children just as their parents brought them. We have numerous schools who schedule special story time visits.
Pumpkins international provides the pumpkins to us on a consignment basis at no charge. They are grown in the four corners area and benefit the economies of the Navajo and Zuni tribes. We take a portion of sales and return the rest. These sales benefit local charitable efforts; the scholarships at Hays, Johnson, and Lehman in particular.
Most importantly, they provide a great place for school story time visits and a place for kids to just enjoy themselves.
We are taking delivery of an 18 wheeler loaded with pumpkins on September 23rd at 9am. We are also open from that next day all the way through October 31st. We could sure use any help your students could provide and, again, it is a great opportunity for service hours and, if I am honest, a great time as everyone pitches in and helps move them from the truck. We are also always on the lookout for help in manning the patch during sales hours.
In the past we were located on Main street as you approach Buda old town. Sadly that property is no longer available. We are now located on the grounds of Buda United Methodist church, 302 Elm St. in Buda, right next to the City Park.

Good morning,
My name is Aimee Garcia, I am the Recreation Manager with the Kyle Parks and Recreation Department.
The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is now overseeing the KAYAC Program that has been a part of the City of Kyle for over 5 years. I am reaching out today to help spread the word to our local students. Our application to be apart of the AWESOME program is open and we are currently accepting members.
What is KAYAC?
This Youth Advisory Council was created as a sixteen (16) member committee that consists of youth ages 14-18, enrolled in ninth through twelfth-grade levels, and either reside in the city limits of Kyle or currently attend a high school in the Hays CISD school district or live in the city limits and are homeschooled. This committee is known as the Kyle Area Youth Advisory Council (KAYAC).
KAYAC shall be advisory in nature and has been created for the purpose of providing a youthful point of view for the Kyle City Council on community affairs and issues. This commission shall provide the opportunity for youth in the City of Kyle to learn about municipal government and to advise Kyle City Council from the perspective of area teens.
I have also attached the link to our website for more information. Feel free to forward the email and information to anyone within your school that can help spread the word!
Please do not hesitate to each out with any questions and I will be happy to assist.
