Dr. Simoné Edwards received her Doctor of Education degree with a specialization in Sport and Athletic Management. She has an MA in Counseling and is a Licensed Associate Counselor with 22 years of counseling experience. Her specialty is working with school-aged children and young adults. She has a knack for building trust and a quick rapport with her students. Her extensive experience includes investigating HIB (Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying) cases, working with "at risk" students, and finding effective resolutions for her students and their families. She is an avid resource for student-athletes as she has great knowledge and experience working with school-aged student-athletes, Division I athletes as well as professional athletes. As a Hall of Fame student-athlete herself as well as an Olympic candidate, she brings the counseling of competing at a high level as well as overcoming injuries and self doubt.
Dr. Edwards also offers private 1 on 1 personal basketball training and has worked with athletes on all levels - school-aged, and professionals. With her extensive compassion for helping others and being identified as being an empath, Dr. Edwards became a certified Fowler International Academy (FIA) life and career coach to help others propel to the next level. She is also a certified FIA disaster coach, in addition to serving as an advocate for clients who identify as LGBTQ.
Children, adolescents, and teenagers progress through many life changes and challenges in their family, peer groups, schools, and other environments. As such, Dr. Edwards works tirelessly helping students to develop coping and social skills to achieve emotional and mental health. She manages this by using CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy) techniques, which address negative attitudes, unhealthy emotions, and maladaptive behaviors - all which can negatively impact life's happiness.
Dr. Edwards is also very excited to be named the Head Coach of the Girls Flag Football team for the high school.
A Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) provides school-based Student Wellness support services by working together with students and their families to improve resiliency, develop healthy coping skills, and overcome personal stressors and challenges.
Referrals are typically made by Hawthorne staff members, administrators, parents/guardians, or a peer out of concern.
