With the rising concerns of renewable power and global warming, the Domeyko Solar Project was created to offset CO2 emissions and generate renewable power. The project was started by Enel Green Power Chile, and is set to be built in the Antofagasta Region, Chile.
This project will feature 472,590 bifacial mono-crystalline PV modules and will cover 700 hectares of area.
It is stated that the project will generate approximately 589GWh of power while offsetting 439,000tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The project is estimated to have a total investment of $164M and is only one of a few other projects of similar proportions.
The solar project is scheduled to be finished by July of 2021, and is part of a portfolio of renewable energy projects that seeks to add 2 GW of installed capacity by 2022. Though only half of these projects are under construction.
Enel Green power is a group dedicated to the development and operation of renewables across the world. They are present in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Oceania. They are a global leader in the green energy sector with an installed capacity of around 46.4 GW across a generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower, and are at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies into renewable power plants.
