Outline of a technical report
Please use this as a simple guideline for your x96 project reports, 699/700 reports, or any other technical reports; you can certainly create your own style.
- Title: one or two line, less than 15 words
- Authors and Affiliations
- Abstract: a quick summary: 5 to 10 sentences, < 150 words
- why this topic is important
- what are the main issues in existing solutions
- what methods we propose to improve the existing solutions
- what interesting results we have
- what are our future plans in this direction
- Introduction: 1-2 page
- a longer summary of the same contents of the abstract
- elaborate each point into one or two paragraphes
- Related Work: convince the readers that we know what we are doing
- draw the big picture: where the problem is; give a quick literature review of related ideas
- show our understanding the existing solutions, and point out the advantages and limitations of existing solutions
- point out what our method will improve
- Proposed Solution, Method, and Theory
- What is the problem:
- define the problem context, and point out the main chanllenges
- What is our solution: Practical method or theoretical analysis
- what are the main issues we solve
- what are the main differences or improvement from existing solutions
- What is the problem:
- Evaluation and Discussion
- what are the evaluation setup: simulation or real testing systems
- what are the main interesting results, especially compared with existing solutions
- Conclusions: 5 to 10 sentences, < 200 words
- reiterate the main problem, what we have achieved, and what are our future research plans
