PBLL- Media Detectives Lesson Plan
Level: Intermediate-Advance Learners
Age: Highschool Juniors-Seniors
This lesson plan uses Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) to engage intermediate students in critical analysis of 21st-century propaganda through the lens of Herman and Chomsky’s Propaganda Model. Over three sessions, students collaborate to research and analyze current news stories by applying the model’s five filters—ownership, advertising, sourcing, flak, and ideology. The lesson fosters inquiry, language development, and critical media literacy by encouraging students to work with authentic materials, discuss findings, and reflect on the social impact of media. By the end, students will be equipped to recognize propaganda techniques and articulate their analysis in English, supporting both their communicative competence and their understanding of media power dynamics.

SLS 460 (English Phonology)- Tutoring Worksheets
Level: Beginner-Intermediate Learners
Recommended Age: 14+
For our final project, my group was assigned a student learning English pronunciation. In order to achieve our designated required hours, each person took on their own session to individually tutor the student. My portion targets sounds /l/ and /r/, which are known to be difficult for Japanese learners of English. Based on the Celce-Murcia et. al (2010) Teaching Pronunciation framework, I created two different worksheets.
