The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Founded in 1963, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is the world's largest aerospace technical society, made up of 30,000 members from 91 different countries. It is dedicated to the global aerospace profession, with the purpose of igniting and celebrating aerospace ingenuity, collaboration, and its importance to life.
The AIAA provides publications, workshops, courses, scholarships, and more. It also hosts several events, including the AIAA SciTech Forum—the world's largest event for aerospace research, development, and technology. Additionally, the AIAA supports a network of student chapters to help foster learning, networking, and professional development opportunities for students.
The AIAA at UHM is dedicated to promoting the Aeronautical and Astronautical presence in the University of Hawaii system. The organization aligns itself with the AIAA, by advocating for the currently growing aerospace-focused curriculum and supporting the various aerospace activities and projects throughout the university. Founded in 2024, the student chapter has hosted presentations, seminars, and talks with professionals in the aerospace industry and also operates a fixed-wing drone team aiming to compete in the AIAA Design, Build, Fly Competition.
The AIAA at UHM welcomes students of all disciplines and levels with a passion for aerospace or aeronautics.
