Workforce Development & Engagement Coordinator
Cassie finds her way back to the Thompson School’s Department of Social Work after graduating with her MSW in 2020. Since graduating, Cassie has worked with the dual-diagnosis community, provided services for military soldiers and their dependents, as well as spearheaded her own private practice working specifically with individuals who are feeling workplace burnout.
As the Workforce Readiness and Engagement Coordinator, Cassie aims at preparing our students with workshops such as interview skills, resume building, licensure pathways and more to ensure a strong social worker in the field. Outside of the office, Cassie enjoys spending time with her family and 2 mini aussies.
Kristl Nakamura, B.Sc.
Workforce Data Coordinator
Before transitioning over to the Workforce Development Hub, Kristl worked as a research coordinator, helping patients navigate their way through oncology clinical trials. She also has prior experience as an analyst and has worked in both the hospital and retail pharmacy settings.
Using her previous work experience with data management, Kristl’s focus as the Data Coordinator will be to build and maintain a database of the social workers in the field by gathering and assessing the information available. The goal will be to collaborate with the team and utilize this information to help strengthen the social work workforce for the future. When she’s not at work, Kristl loves spending time with her loved ones.
Wendy J. Lum, MSW, M.Ed.
Workforce Hub Director
Before leading our Workforce Hub, Wendy served as the Field Education Coordinator in our Field Education office for six years, where she mentored students throughout their field placements and taught field integration seminars.
As the Director of the Workforce Hub, Wendy is eager for the Hub’s team to collaborate with faculty, students, alumni, and the community to help grow the social work workforce in Hawai’i and the Pacific Region. As an educator, social worker, and first-generation college graduate, she is deeply committed to supporting the wellness and academic success of students by providing a range of resources and fostering supportive learning environments. In her free time, Wendy enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends!
