The collaboration includes Radiant Cordero, District 7 Councilmember, Parents And Children Together (PACT), Trees for Honolulu’s Future, Smart Trees Pacific, The National Park Service - Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program (NPS-RTCA), and various other members. 

Interacting with the space 

Getting to know Makalapa Park with community engagement. Hosting events, efforts to improve connectivity. 

Efforts to increase green space 

Mahalo to the Heat Island Investigators students from Puuwai Momi housing for their dedicated efforts in assessing the current conditions at Makalapa Neighborhood Park. They diligently measured and mapped trees, recorded temperatures, and identified viable solutions to mitigate the impacts of urban heat.

Establishing a Friends of Makalapa Park 

“To advocate for the completion of immediate improvements to the Park, to plan for the use of this space long-term, and to protect this open/green space for the future.”
