In-person & Zoom
The Hawaiian Center Classroom
(Building 5, Room 202)
Join Elliot Ossanna for sohbet (chatting), where he will prepare and serve Turkish Coffee, and share traditional stories related to Turkish culture and cuisine.
There is a Turkish phrase "a cup of coffee holds 40 years of memories in it". The origin story is that a famed Ottoman barista refused an order to not serve coffee to a Greek man, and exactly 40 years later he was released by that same Greek man during a war between Turkiye and Greece. It's a short story, so I'll probably tell a few more, like the "Turks come from wolves" story, and the origin story behind why the Turkish word for "Ms." is literally "My Khan".
Use the Zoom link above to register for both Stories from Ireland and Tales from Turkey!
