Friday Night Prime Time (formerly known as Friday Night Lights) was founded in 2016 by Dr. Nathan Murata out of the College of Education's, Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
The program, which provides inclusive interscholastic athletic opportunities was modeled after Team Prime Time's Prime Time Games out of Los Angeles, California with the help from and blessing of Peter Strauss (founder of TPT PTG) and started off with just two schools playing in a home and home format.
Friday Night Prime Time is a school sanctioned and run program that is fueled by volunteers and supportive school administrators.
The inaugural games between Kalani High School and Roosevelt High School, took place on April 28th and May 6th, 2016.
The University of Hawaii College of Education's Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS)'s Adapted Physical Activity program helps to facilitate the program. Faculty and students help to organize the schedule, modify and adapt the rules, and coordinate transportation and uniform needs.
Additionally, staff from the Student Recreation Services program and OIA help with refereeing.
Most importantly, as a school sanctioned event and program, the teachers and students at each school are the heart and soul of the teams.
