This is a resource page for ENG 100S.
It depicts what ENG 100S entails and provides a run through of concepts that many ENG 100S courses might cover.
ENG 100S is a co-requisite course that supplements ENG 100, the foundations course which fulfills the Written Communication Foundation Requirement for degrees at UH-Manoa, UH-West O'ahu and Kapi'olani Community College.
ENG 100S is a concurrently offered ENG course that offers targeted support to help boost student comprehension and learning of the college-level course material; ENG 100S also offers students increased awareness of relevant college support and academic services.
In most cases, many students probably need ENG 100S to learn better methodologies towards 'studenting,' (becoming a stronger student) but it often is the case that placement modalities--particularly EdReady--caused students to end up in the course. The vital dimensions about this class are exercising and possessing a keen growth and 'optimistic realist' mindsets. In a way, overcoming one's imposter syndrome about college and exercising agency as you gain confidence in writing and 'studenting'--these are the main goals of ENG 100S.
If you are in a standalone ENG 100 course and feel that you might be better served by concurrent enrollment in ENG 100S, please speak to your instructor. Alternatively, you might look at the links herein.
