Thanks to the dedication and hard work of their teacher, Miss Joy Shlachter, the children at Ka’a‘awa Elementary have been learning about the world around them and actively contributing to their community. While exploring the topic of coastal erosion, Miss Joy welcomed us into her classroom to discuss ways to protect our beaches. During one of these visits, “The Sand Dance” was created—a game designed by Helena Andrade and Kammie-Dominique Tavares to help children better understand coastal processes.
These students are now working on a project to restore the dunes at the beach in front of their school and are excited to share their inspiring artwork, titled:
“How Do We Love and Protect Our Beaches?”
A heartfelt mahalo to Ka’a‘awa Elementary, Miss Joy, and her amazing students for the incredible work you do!
