The course will be held in person for two weeks Monday- Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM HWST, August 11 - August 22, 2025. **August 15th is a state holiday (we're planning for class that day too) on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. There is no remote option. Classes will take place at different sites around Oʻahu.
Self provided transportation is required. We hope after the first day folks can arrange to carpool with each other for the two weeks.
Please bring your own food and water everyday. We will have a nice pau hana on the last day!
Suzanne Case will be the instructor of record and has designed the course based on needs and gaps she has identified in her over 20 years of conservation program leadership in Hawaiʻi. She has engaged numerous contacts that lead conservation programs and projects through out the state to serve as facilitators and module instructors throughout the 2 weeks.
In addition to the daily 8:30 am to 4:30 participation students will be required to complete daily assignments and a final portfolio.
Daily assignments, posted on google classroom will allow students to reflect upon their learning and how they might apply it in their own work.
Students will also create a final portfolio or tool kit in which they coalesce learning from the course and each of the four focus areas in a way that they can access and apply it in the future. These portfolios could take the form of a final journal reflection on learning from the class, a powerpoint that summarizes key points in a way that can be shared with others, or some other multi media format that is useful to the student. Portfolios serve as a way for students to bring their learning together in ways they can use it in their work.
