Biografía
The 2020-2021 school year brings Señora Monahan to her fifth year with Haverford and will be her fourteenth year teaching. She has taught Spanish I, II, II Honors, III Honors, IV , IV Honors, and V. This year, Señora Monahan will be teaching Spanish I and II.
After graduating from Western Wayne High School, Señora Monahan studied Spanish, Theater, and Photography at Albright College as an undergraduate student. She participated in various clubs and plays such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Mother Courage and her Children, and Prelude to a Kiss. While at Albright, Señora Monahan studied abroad in the Dominican Republic for the January term.
Post Albright, Señora Monahan worked at Walt Disney World Resorts through Walt Disney World’s College Program. When the semester was over, she moved to Nevada and worked at Wynn Las Vegas. She started as a gallery attendant at the Wynn Collection and then transferred to the Entertainment Sales Department to promote the shows Avenue Q! and Le Rêve.
After a year and a half, she moved back to Pennsylvania to pursue a career in teaching by studying at Marywood University. While at Marywood, Señora Monahan went to Ecuador with Habitat for Humanity to build a house. She received her Certification in Spanish K-12 Education and began teaching at the Hanover Area School District near Wilkes-Barre, PA. While at Hanover Area, Señora Monahan was the advisor for the Spanish Club, Drama Club, and Key Club. She completed her Master’s of Arts in Teaching with Marywood in 2010.
During the summer of 2010, she began her second Master’s at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. This was a six-weeks, four summer, Spanish immersion program. One summer was held in the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While studying at Middlebury, Señora Monahan participated in various clubs such as dance and drama, performing in three shows over the course of her studies: Los Niños de Morelia, Kásperle, and La Vida no Vale Nada. Señora Monahan graduated in 2013 with a Master’s of Arts in Spanish Linguistics.
In the summers of 2015 and 2016, Señora Monahan taught at a high school language immersion program, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy. During the summer of 2019, Señora Monahan was the Academy Head for Spanish . This program allows students from ages 12-18 to be fully immersed in the target language for four weeks. By the end of the summer students increase by their language skills tremendously, jumping from beginner to intermediate level for example.
After marrying, Señora Monahan and her husband chose to relocate to the greater Philadelphia area to raise a family.
