As part of our Assessment System, the Faculty have agreed to use various sets of common rubrics as they evaluate student accomplishment in selected courses. There are two sets: one for General Education Courses and another for Senior Projects.
Each term departments are asked to Designate Courses and Select Rubrics for General Education Assessment
Each year departments are asked to Select Rubrics for Senior Capstone Project Assessment
General Education Rubrics are used in courses designated by individual departments. Assessment ratings (which are separate from grades given by individual faculty members) are pooled to allow discussion of shared challenges and priorities.
The ratings for each of the individual criteria within the various sets of rubrics go from 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest).
The rubrics consist of multiple criteria for each overall category. The categories (presented as tables) and criteria (the individual rows within the tables) are by design somewhat general, and will need to be interpreted according to the best fit seen as appropriate by individual instructors and departments. The categories, in brief:
Critical Analysis and Synthesis
Oral Communication
Quantitative Reasoning
Scientific Method
Written Communication

Artistic Craft and Vision
