Week 10

We had lots of fun leading up to Easter!

For writing we were busy preparing for our scavenger hunt. We had to find good hiding spots around the playground and hide an egg. We had to write steps for a buddy to find our eggs. It was a lot of fun swapping instructions and going on an egg hunt!

We also had to follow instructions to make a bouncing bunny! Here's the results!

Week 9

Week 8

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We had Constable Murray come and talk with us about people who we can trust in the community, at school and with our family and friends. Lincoln also got to try on his police vest!

Writing

This week we have been using wow words in our writing.

We read 'The Hungry Monster' and then we had to write about what he would eat, practice writing some monster wow words (adjectives) into green paint and also design and describe our own monster!

Check out Lila and Emma's monster with their great wow words!

Super job to these four students for working hard and helping out in the classroom!

Rm6 Homework Wk 8, Term 1

Week 7

Writing:

  • This week we have been learning to use WOW words (adjectives, descriptive words) into our writing to make it more exciting. We did an experiment and made Sticky Ice. At first it didn't work but we kept trying and it worked. We were able to pick up an ice cube with a piece of string using salt.
  • Check out our writing about it with our cool wow words!

We also had to spot letters in frozen ice and then make up as many words as we could with the letters!

Well done to all our super stars this week for working hard and showing awesome manners and attitudes!

This week we also farewelled Maia who is off for an adventure to France!

Rm6 Homework Wk 7, Term 1

Week 6

This week we read an awesome book by Juliette MacIver. The duck and bear in the story had their own marmalade and honey shop so we decided we would create some new items for their shop!

We started by making our very own Chocolicious spread. We LOVED tasting the result.

We then had to create our own spread for their shop and design our own jar for it to go in. We made labels by using interesting wow words to describe our ingredients. All our spreads can be found in our 'Sticky-Licky Sweet-Treat Shop' in the library. Check it out and see which spreads you'd like!

Super Naida and amazing Zara were spotted this week for being excellent learners. Well done girls!

Rm6 Homework Wk6, Term 1

Week 4

Maths

We've been learning that numbers can be shown differently. Sometimes they are a number, sometimes we see them as words, sometimes on tens frames...

Below we were learning about what numbers look like on tens frame. In our tables we had to race to make a number on our tens frames.

Well done to our super stars this week who got certificates!

Constable Murray

We had Constable Murray come and talk to us about keeping ourselves safe when crossing the road.

Writing

We made a balloon inflate this week by filling a bottle with vinegar and by putting baking soda in a balloon. We found out that the baking soda and vinegar go a bit crazy when you put them together. It made frothy bubbles and carbon dioxide which inflated the balloon!

Statistics

We have been information gathering this week! We've found out that most people in Room 6 have 4 people in their families.

We also have to create our own pictograph and find out what our favourite animals were. Cats and dogs were definite favourites!

This week we have been working on using picture plans and labels to organise our ideas before we write. This week on Valentine's Day we thought of all the things we love and created these hearts!

Rm6 HomeworkTerm 1 Week 3

Week 2

TREATY OF WAITANGI

This we we found out what Waitangi Day is all about. At the end we completed an activity where each group needed to find certain objects in a picture of when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. Each group raced to find the items and worked together so well!

READING

We have begun working in reading groups and following a reading tumble of activities. We've completed puzzles together, read big books, made playdough letter blends, listened to QR code stories on the ipads and read some cool books on Sunshine Online.

Swimming

We've been working on water confidence this week and enjoying the cool water in this hot weather!

Week 1

We have enjoyed a few days of getting to know one another and working together. We had a challenge this week to work in a team to keep a balloon from touching the ground. We all worked so well in our teams, making sure everyone touched the balloon and also had fun at the same time. Well done to Leonardo, Filipe, Connie and Zara who were the team to keep their balloon up the longest!
